Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC), an industry (Iron & Steel, Rerolling, Sponge Iron units, Ferro Alloys, Steel Construction and Welding) driven non-profit company limited by guarantee registered under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act, 1956, having its registered office at Karigari Bhawan, 5th Floor, Room No-509, Plot No- B/7, Action Area-III, Newtown, Kolkata-700160, West Bengal. The company is promoted by Institute for Steel Development & Growth (INSDAG) and Bengal Chambers of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I) and mandated under National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
IISSSC has been approved by National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) Govt of India as a National Awarding Body. The Governing Committee of the Council includes senior officials, HR and Operations of major Iron & Steel companies like Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Tata Steel Ltd, JSW Steel Ltd, Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), AM/NS INDIA Ltd (Formerly Essar Steel Ltd), NMDC Ltd, Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd (MIDHANI), Jindal Stainless Ltd, Arjas Steel Pvt. Ltd, Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd, and Associations of Sponge Iron Manufacturers, All India Steel Rerollers, Indian Ferro Alloy Producers, Foundries & Indian Institute of Welding etc. As a member of Task Forces of Ministry of Steel (MoS) on Skill Development under De-carbonization in Steel Industries IISSSC is contributing a major role towards enabling the ecosystem for Green Steel in India.
IISSSC has received an Office Memorandum (OM) from Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) on 04.04.2022 regarding inclusion of Non- Ferrous sector in IISSSSC. The sectors include Copper, Aluminum, Zinc, Lead and Others.
IISSSC is Mandated
- To Develop National Occupational Standards for the Sector.
- To facilitate development of high-quality content.
- To create a bank of quality faculty by train the trainer program and to build accreditation and certification mechanism.
- To create a dynamic Labour Market Information System (LMIS).
- Research and aggregate skill requirements of the Industry including sub-sector requirements, regional requirements and international trends and best practices that can be introduced in the domestic skill development space.
- Create skill database, Collate and disseminate labour market information with respect to number of people getting direct and indirect employment in various areas of the industry. It will identify current and future skill requirements, both in terms of numbers as well as in terms of types of skills at national and regional levels and investigating the underlying reasons for the same.
- Identify upcoming technologies in the sector and determine technology specific skills that may need to be developed in the near future.
- Build Capacity for training delivery and regulate the skill development activities in the Industry sectors including development of the National Occupational Standards, qualifications, training curriculum and assessment criteria.
- Provide quality assurance via accreditation & certifications of training delivery bodies and awarding certification to trainees and trainers.
The Salient Objectives of IISSSC
- Develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) that feature skill competency standards and qualifications as per NSQF.
- Refine the existing curricula to align it with NOS, obtain approval from an industry led body of experts and facilitate building of delivery capacity.
- Plan and institutionalize an effective system for training of trainers.
- Steer the affiliation processes to enable quality assurance in training in par with international standards.
- Create an assessment framework to award tamper proof certification to trainees.
- Promote academies of excellence by nurturing state of vocational training
